Summer Training Sessions

Tuesday/Thursday Sessions

The Tuesday/Thursday training sessions start June 10th at Brookside Park. We will begin training at 10:00 AM and end at 12:00 PM. Any player interested in trying out for Jefferson soccer should try to attend these sessions since they will get you ready for tryouts. A typical session will include the following activities:

  • Ball Mastery (30 minutes)
  • Tactical Session (60 minutes)
  • Physical Conditioning (30 minutes)

The Ball Mastery activities emphasize ball control. It is critical for players to be disciplined and actively work on the skills both at our sessions and at home. This is not social time. You will be given a slate of activities and you have 30 minutes to get as many touches as you can get. Your goal is to get through all of the activities and get over 5000 touches in 30 minutes.

The touches that you’re working on should be at speed and with effort. Slow and lazy touches won’t translate to ball mastery on the field.

Our tactical portion is going to be a brief look at what we need to work on to be competitive. This is going to be a lot of fundamental ideas. The reason for this is that all teams that are strong are fantastic with fundamentals since those are the building block for more complex strategies. It is critically important for players to be a part of this – again, it’s not a time to “check out” and socialize while training. You play the way you practice.

The final part of the training session will be physical conditioning. This is based on the training sessions in the Player Handbook and will help you get ready for the season. The idea is that you do a few of these training sessions a week. If you attend both of the Tuesday and Thursday sessions, that covers two of the sessions. The other two would need to be done at home.
